Program assistance and resources that are available to renters and landlords include the following:
If tenants facing eviction have not applied for assistance, they may apply immediately and notify the program they are facing imminent threat of eviction. Tenants can apply:
• Via web application at LAStateRent.com.
• Via phone by calling 877-459-6555, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• If tenants live in Caddo, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Lafayette, Orleans, and St. Tammany parishes, they may contact their respective parish’s program directly.
If a landlord has not applied for assistance, you may wish to inform the landlord about available assistance. Many landlords may not be aware that they are eligible for emergency rental assistance through the Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program or locally administered programs in Caddo, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Lafayette, Orleans, and St. Tammany parishes.
If a tenant claims he/she has applied for assistance from the Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program application, you may wish to call the program’s Judicial Hotline at 225-427-1304 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday to verify the application status. Identify yourself as a representative of the court in an eviction proceeding. You can also email info@lastaterent.com with the subject line: “Eviction Proceeding File Request or Payment Documentation Proof.” A response will be provided within 24 hours.
If you confirm payment has been disbursed to a landlord by an emergency rental program, the landlord has agreed not evict a tenant for at least 60 days after assistance ends unless eviction is for cause. “For cause” shall not include the following eviction filings: “owner wants possession,” “non-renewal of lease,” or “non-payment of rent.” This clause does not preclude the landlord from seeking eviction for lease violations and/or for tenants who violate the health, safety and/or peaceable enjoyment of the property.
